Collage, Cake & Coffee

Collage, Cake and Coffee: community collage making with Jasmine Givnan and Sarah Jay. Saturday 28 November, 10:30am to 12:30pm.

Community collage making

Saturday 28 November, 10:30am to 12:30pm

With Jasmine Givnan and Sarah Jay

A relaxed morning of cutting, tearing and layering paper together over coffee and cake. No art experience needed, just curiosity.

About The Workshop

Over the last 18 months, myself Sarah Jay and Jasmine Givnan have both been through cancer. Both of us found our way through with the help of scissors, glue and a pile of old magazines. Collage gave us somewhere to play when everything felt heavy, and a way to process what we didn’t have words for. This isn’t a class and there’s nothing to get right. It’s a warm, sociable morning. Come and sit with us, have a cup of tea and a slice of cake, chat, cut, tear and stick, and add your piece to the community collage wall. It will grow throughout the exhibition. Stay for ten minutes or the whole afternoon. Tea, coffee, cake and all materials are provided, and everyone is welcome.

Singing for wellbeing

Monday 30 November, 10:30am to 12:00pm

Gentle voice and breath work to help the body move from tension into ease. Every voice is welcome, whether you sing every day or haven’t sung in years.

About Sarah

Sarah Jay Hawley is a Sheffield-based vocal coach, Nada Yoga teacher and qualified Yoga for Health practitioner. For over 25 years she has led workshops in singing for wellbeing, helping people of all ages and abilities find their voice and feel more at home in their bodies.

Her approach, The Jay Method, brings together singing technique, Nada Yoga (the yoga of sound), primal voice and embodied voice work, with a focus on using breath and sound to calm the nervous system. Her sessions are warm, gentle and inclusive. No experience is needed, and there’s never any pressure to perform.

Sarah runs regular group classes and courses including Finding Your Voice Again and The Embodied Voice. She teaches from lived experience, here she will be teaching the same practices that carried her through her recent tongue and tonsil cancer treatment, practices that helped save her voice.

Writing and artistic burnout

Tuesday 1 December, 10:30am to 12:00pm

A guided creative writing workshop exploring burnout, recovery and resilience through reflection and self-expression.

About Amanda and The Workshop

What does it cost to hold it all together? What happens when you have to stop? This gentle but practical workshop with neurodivergent writer and mentor Amanda Marples explores burnout and ways to come back to yourself through writing. Open to anyone experiencing prolonged demands and depleted capacity, including neurodivergent people, caregivers and those living with chronic illness, the session offers guided writing exercises exploring the price of burnout and what recovery and resilience might look like; acknowledging that this may not mean a return to how things were before. Sharing writing and experiences is optional. All materials are provided, but feel free to bring favourite pens or notebooks.

Amanda Marples is a neurodivergent writer, mental health social worker and mentor. She is the author of The Healing Workbook (2023) and other works of fiction and non-fiction, and she supports other neurodivergent writers at reconcilecreative.com

Connecting Voice to Self

Connecting Voice to Self with Tina Warnock. Wednesday 2 December, 10:30am to 12pm.

Voice and self-expression

Wednesday 2 December, 10:30am to 12:00pm

With Tina Warnock

An exploratory voice workshop using sound, breath and vocal expression to strengthen self-awareness and confidence.

About Tina and The Workshop

Our singing voice is as unique as our fingerprint and is intrinsically connected to our sense of self. When we tune into our breath, voice and natural sounds, we can connect with our inner world and open up opportunities for exploration. For example, different parts of ourselves such as the inner child, or critic can be accessed in a way that is safe and empowering. We may also discover that when we find strength and flexibility in our voice, this can translate to greater strength and flexibility in ourselves.

Tina is a registered music therapist, vocal psychotherapist and trainer in Austin Vocal Psychotherapy. Her main interest is the connection between the voice and the self which she has put at the centre of her therapeutic practice for the past 26 years. Her current work includes working with people in cancer treatment, and private practice.

Writing Resilience

Writing Resilience: poetry and prose with Beverley Ward. Thursday 3 December, 10:30am to 12pm.

Poetry and prose

Thursday 3 December, 10:30am to 12:00pm

With Beverley Ward

A supportive creative writing workshop exploring personal experiences of resilience through poetry and prose.

About Beverley and The Session

Many writers use writing as a tool to process difficult life experiences and in doing so create themselves anew. In this workshop with memorist and facilitator, Beverley Ward, we’ll be taking inspiration from the Art of Resilience exhibition to create our own written responses in poetry and prose as we explore how writing can contribute to our experience of ourselves as resilient creators. No experience of writing is necessary for this workshop. Just bring a notebook, pen and a willingness to play and explore.

Beverley Ward is an author, facilitator, performer and creative coach. The author of Dear Blacksmith – A Story of Love and Loss, and the founder of The Writers Workshop, she’s passionate about the power of creative writing to inspire and transform.

Grounded in Resilience

Grounded in Resilience: yoga, sound and breathwork with Helena Turner. Friday 4 December, 10:30am to 12pm.

Yoga, sound and breathwork

Friday 4 December, 10:30am to 12:00pm

With Helena Turner

A restorative yoga, breathwork and sound workshop exploring inner strength, balance and calm through mindful movement and a nourishing sound bath.

About Helena and The Workshop

This 90-minute workshop combines yoga, breathwork and sound to cultivate resilience, confidence and inner calm. Participants will be guided through mindful movement, conscious breathing, affirmations and gentle sound practices designed to release tension, quiet self-limiting beliefs and reconnect with their innate strength.

Drawing on principles of Nada Yoga, we will explore the body as an instrument, using mantra and vibration to awaken presence, courage and authentic self-expression. These practices invite participants to move beyond habitual patterns, connect more deeply with themselves and experience a greater sense of balance and wellbeing.

The session concludes with a deeply nourishing sound bath, offering space for rest, integration and renewal.

Suitable for all levels of experience, this workshop provides a restorative and uplifting opportunity to pause, reset and discover practical tools for navigating life’s challenges with greater steadiness, confidence and flow.

Helena has been teaching Yoga since 2007. She has trained continuously and extensively for many years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her teaching. Helena also teaches Mandala drawing and Sacred geometry, as well as delivering Sound Baths and Yoga courses.
